The surgeries offer a full range of health and disease management clinics and there are facilities for carrying out minor surgery. Please make an appointment if you would like to attend any of the clinics.

Antenatal and Postnatal Examinations

These are carried out at the surgeries at various times of the day to allow you to choose the most convenient time. The doctors and the midwife both run the clinic.

Asthma/Respiratory Checks

We provide a service which follows locally agreed guidelines for the management of asthma and COPD within the community, using specially trained staff.  You may also be seen by our healthcare assistant who supports the practice nurses with these clinics.

If you have been advised by the surgery to submit an annual review of your asthma symptoms, please complete our online Asthma Review form.

Children’s Immunisation Schedule

We feel it is essential that our children are protected from infectious diseases as far as possible. You will normally receive an appointment when your child’s injections are due.

Diabetic Health Checks

We invite people with diabetes for health checks every 6 months.

Diabetic 6 Month Review

We will ask you to come in for a blood test with one of our HCA’s – and the practice nurse will then contact you to discuss your results with you.

This is to monitor your condition and ensure that any medication that you are taking is working as expected.

Diabetic Annual Review

We will ask you to come to the surgery so that we can test your blood and urine (with one of our HCA’s).

Two weeks later – you will have a review with one of our practice nurses so that they can help you to manage your condition.

Family Planning

We offer a comprehensive family planning service which includes coil fitting (copper and mirena), and implant fitting. This service is available at Hillview Medical Centre and is run by Dr Kate Bulmer, Dr Natasha Shah, Dr Katherine Holgate and Sister Nikki Raif. Appointments can be booked in the usual way – please just let the receptionists know if you wish to book a coil or implant fitting.

General advice and pill prescriptions are available in normal surgery from all GPs, advanced nurse practitioners and also from our practice nurses.

Lifestyle Clinic

A positive approach is taken to encourage a healthy lifestyle in relation to diet, exercise, stress reduction, obesity, smoking and alcohol problems.

If you have been advised by the surgery to submit a smoking review on a regular basis please complete our online Smoking Review form.

Meningitis C Vaccine

All first year students who are at, or going to, college or university are eligible for the meningitis vaccine. Please ring reception for an appointment. Meningitis C vaccines are being introduced progressively to all children aged under 13 months and young people from ages 15-20 years.

Minor Surgery

Minor surgical procedures are carried out in our well-equipped Treatment Room at Hillview Medical Centre by special appointment with Dr Knights.

New Patient Health Checks

These are carried out, mainly by our HCA’s, to a standard protocol, and will be offered to you when you join the practice.

NHS Health Checks

The NHS Health Check is your chance to get your free midlife MOT. For adults in England aged 40-74 without a pre-existing condition, it checks your circulatory and vascular health and what your risk of getting a disabling vascular disease is.

Teenage Health

The health of our young adults is very important. Our practice nurses provide a general health check and also give young people a chance to discuss in complete confidence any concerns they may have.

Travel Immunisation

These are given by the nurse after consultation. You will need to complete our online Travel Risk Assessment form. Please then arrange a travel appointment with a Nurse (each person travelling will need a separate appointment) and bring the travel form to your appointment.

Appointments for this service are limited though and need to be made at least 6 weeks in advance of the anticipated travel date.

We are sorry – but if no travel appointment is available or your anticipated travel date is less than 6 weeks away – you will need to organise your travel vaccinations through a travel clinic.
